EVERY SCAR, A STORY is a variant approach to handling damage and harm in the 24XX rules. Inspired by Orbital Decay, characters have a stress die that gets rolled and grows in size every time they suffer harm or fear. The higher the result, the more dire the consequences.
This was written to give some survivability/"plot armor" to 24XX heroes while also maintaining risk and danger. It's inspired by gritty pulp fantasy, hard boiled action movies and heavy metal sci-fi -- any genre where the protagonists get stomped before rising back up to fight.

I really like this approach. How have you used it in conjunction with setback outcomes? Like if the risk is “you take harm” and the player rolls a 3-4, would you have them make a modified stress roll?
I honestly just use it any time physical harm or mental duress (like in a horror scenario) comes into play. Sometimes on a roll of 3-4, depending on context, I may use it or I may go with some other minor setback in the narrative.
TL;DR – I handle 24XX with lots of handwavium and “what feels right” and I’m sorry I don’t have a more concrete answer lol
