A Brief History of Main Sequence

Give or take, MAIN SEQUENCE has been in existence for 10 years now.

Between Matt and I, we've ran adventures in a variety of sci-fi settings using these rules: we've entertained brown coats, starfleet officers, edgy cyberpunks, space truckers and even sentient programs in strange virtual vistas.

The journey here is a long, strange one. It all began with me, following the end of a long-term relationship and in need of a distraction. I had discovered a free fantasy role-playing game called Warrior, Rogue & Mage and a pulp follow up: Resolute, Adventurer & Genius. Admiring its marriage of modern (at the time) mechanics with stripped-down simplicity, I decided it was time to finally write my own take on cyberpunk role-playing. This project became the pocket-mod game WYRED.

Matt Bryant was one of the original players of WYRED and inspired by its philosophy of "Quick & Dirty, Rules Necessary" gaming, he set out to make his own "Star WYRED" hack -- which would eventually become known as MAIN SEQUENCE.  Matt has been a "co-conspirator" for the years since, and we seemed to have cycles of inspiring one another with our homebrews and hacks. My Drive·10 framework was heavily influenced by Matt's own evolutions of these rules.

This current edition of MAIN SEQUENCE, the "Trifold Edition", is another full-circle moment of sorts as I've merged the augmentations, vehicles and drones from WYRED into Matt's spacefaring project.  In these 8 pages, you have literal years of gaming potential. It's rough around the edges, and will require some ad-hoc rulings and creations by the GM, but I'm proud to say that over the years many who felt overwhelmed by big-name AAA systems discovered our little homebrew and call it their first RPG.
